GetAbout Columbia Offers Lets Roll Together Education Opportunity

On a busy day, local gas utility Ameren UE has nine service trucks driving our streets to install gas meters and gas lines and provide other services for its customers. According to Ameren’s Jennifer Meyer, each driver will log more than 50 miles on a typical day. These folks probably know the streets of Columbia as well as anyone. That’s why Meyer thought employees would benefit from GetAbout Columbia’s free “Let’s Roll Together” presentation.

“I thought hearing the presentation and learning more about road safety from a vehicle driver’s and a bicyclist’s perspective would really be beneficial to our group,” Meyer said.

“Let’s Roll Together” is a short, engaging presentation about how bicyclists and motorists can share the road to create a safer and more friendly environment for everyone.

The free presentation includes information and tips that can help everyone more safely use our streets. Some of the highlights include:
* Reminding motorists to always allow at least a three-foot buffer, or “cushion,” between a vehicle and a bike when passing.
* Reminding bicyclists to always anticipate the unexpected, like a car door opening or debris in the street.
* Reminding both bicyclists and motorists to obey all traffic laws and signs.

Discussion also covers misconceptions about traffic laws for both bicyclists and motorists, along with recent street markings and what they mean.
