News » City Council Approves Bike Boulevard
Columbia City Council voted to make streets safer for cyclists.
GetAbout Columbia proposed a change in the traffic flow to make city streets safe for cyclists.
A new pilot program changes traffic flow for at least a year and adds a bike boulevard.
After the year is up city offficials will decide if the bike boulevard is effective.
With the bike boulevard, a median will stretch down college avenue.
This means drivers can't turn left from College Avenue onto either Ash or Windsor streets.
Additionally motorists can't turn left from Ash or Windsor back to College.
Council members say this will keep the residential streets safer for bikers.
Linda Rootes from the North Central Neighborhood association says, "It will be good for the north village arts district and we're very interested in moving forward with this".
Non-motorized transportation funds will pay for the project.
